Interview Information

However, before he came to Siberia, the 97-year-old eyewitness was sent to the Eastern Front as a 17-year-old in the last weeks & months of World War II in 1945. There, the 97-year-old, without experience, was simply “thrown into the attack.” After being captured by the Red Army in early March 1945, he experienced the end of World War II on May 8, 1945, in a prisoner-of-war camp. From there, the 97-year-old eyewitness was subsequently transported to Siberia. From 1945 until early 1948, this eyewitness was a prisoner of war in Siberia. In this Siberian captivity, the 97-year-old survived hunger, cold, and hopelessness.
